I'm making an active effort to migrate some of my Facebook conversations back over here and hoping others will do the same.
Every forum that I used to frequent has turned into a dust bowl as Facebook surges forward.
There are very good reasons for that.
Facebook thrives thanks to Metcalfe's Law. In part because there is just the one FB that is where (virtually) everyone has an account. If you're not on FB, you're in a walled garden or rareified specialist enclave. You're a teen posting nude selfies, for example, so you go to Tumblr. Or you're talking exclusively about illegal drugs, in which case you're on a SR or other Torified discussion forum. Or you're bitching about the gubmint and talking about illegal drugs and guns, in which case you're here. But any of those inherently involve screening out lots of people, so it can be "just us" having a somewhat more private conversation. Meanwhile, anything that doesn't need to be so private, that does benefit from a FOAF or your Uncle Bill jumping in, well... all those attention cycles are on FB now.
BTW, for legal reasons I have been off FB for neatly two years. Any day now, (meaning sometime between tomorrow and in ~3 months), a judge will sign a piece of paper and I will no longer be in legal limbo and then I can finally rejoin the land of the living, and can reinstate my FB. Oh, I cannot wait for that day....
