What about IRobot? I just watched it the other day, and honestly... I never got the underlying message the first time I watched it, but this time, it was kind of flooring.

It's ironic because Asimov was a socialist. An ardently paternalistic one.

Interestingly enough, libertarians have oft claimed Orwell as their own, as well. However, I was introduced to ANIMAL FARM as a communist work when we read it in school.

I think it is laughable that a communist would enjoy Animal Farm as a positive reflection of communism. I suppose they would just think it was a bd implementation of a good idea.

To be honest, I can't remember enough about ANIMAL FARM to make a call on what politics are on patrol - however, 1984 could hardly be a shrine to communism, that's for sure.

It pretty much exemplifies many of the major faults in communism.  I've always seen it as an obvious attack on it.

"Exemplifies"?   It's a point-by-point allegory of the Russian Revolution.
And Orwell, though obviously despising totalitarianism, still purported to be a socialist himself.

This might be a little left-anarchist, but it still rocks.

Anti-Flag

"Their System Doesn't Work For You"

One day while sitting in my room
You came in preaching
Your words predicting doom
You've never once been
Happy with me,
Because I'm not
What you want me to be..No!!!
You tried to teach me
To pray and go to school
You tried to teach me
To be the system's tool
But you missed
What I was smart enough to see
That their system doesn't work
For you or me

Oh..Don't believe what they say is true
Oh..Their system doesn't work for you
Oh..You can be what you want to be
Oh..Don't have to choose

To join the corporate army
For god and country give up your life,
Don't try to figure out what's wrong or right
You never tried to stop, to look, to see
That you're exactly what you're told to be
You did everything fucking right
You followed the system's guiding light
And now you fucking bitch to me
To fucking get a job,
When you don't like
That life you've got
You fucking corporate whore
For you or me

Oh..Don't believe what they say is true
Oh..Their system doesn't work for you
Oh..You can be what you want to be
Oh..Don't have to choose

To join their corporate army
Don't have to choose
To join their corporate army
Dont have to choose, don't have to choose
To join their corporate army

"This Machine Kills Fascists"

We've run out of patience,
You've run out of time !
This scene will not fall victim
To your violence or lies.

Your "values" are nothing
But excuses to start fights.
Quit fronting like you're standing
For a moral cause tonight...

United as one, we won't stand aside,
You tried to fuck with our scene... We're gonna fuck your life !!!

This machine, this machine. This machine... THIS MACHINE,
KILLS FUCKING FASCISTS !
Dead... That's right, DEAD !

You don't have to be a rascist,
To be a nazi, fuck !
Your mindless nationalism
Gives you credentials enough.

You spew your right wing rhetoric,
When we got your attention...
You've mistaken the punk scene
For the Republican Convention !

No more infiltration, no more right wing lies,
You don't belong in our scene... We'll fight you till we die !!!

This machine, this machine. This machine... THIS MACHINE,
KILLS FUCKING FASCISTS !
Dead... ahhh... DIE !

"Culture Revolution"

Get ready to - make a stand
Get ready to - make a move
Because if - we don't- fuckin' do it - then no one's going to!
No!

Have you seen the scene on the street?
Do you care what's - going on?
Thousands – homeless - in the land of the free but no one seems to think it's wrong!
That’s why we fuckin' wrote this song

Take to the streets - cause it's time to make a stand
We’re not gonna back down! Culture revolution!
Take to the streets - cause it's time to make a stand
We're not gonna back down! Culture revolution!
This ship is sinking - it's time we set it right
Take to the streets - cause it's time to make a stand
We're not gonna back down! Culture revolution!

When the standards of - society
Are based - solely on greed
Humanity - compassion
Do not - define what it means to succeed!
No!

For the poor - contempt and hate
From the rich - middle class, the state
Compassion - dumped for
Apathy - the greatest nation ever seen?
That’s fuckin' real hard to believe

Take to the streets - cause it's time to make a stand
We’re not gonna back down! Culture revolution!
Take to the streets - cause it's time to make a stand
We're not gonna back down! Culture revolution!
This ship is sinking - it's time we set it right
Take to the streets - cause it's time to make a stand
We're not gonna back down! Culture revolution!

Socialized – socialized
Mechanized – mechanized
To consume... everything in the world!
Saturate – saturate
Accumulate – accumulate
Your happiness... can be bought and be sold!
Environment – environment
Detriment – detriment
Is not... an issue of concern!
Humanity – humanity
Or this insanity – insanity
The choice is yours and your choice alone!
But you won't be alone no, you won't be alone... YEAH!

Revolution!
In your head!
On the streets!
Move!

A couple of libertarian themed songs I can think of:

Janes addiction - 1% - the lyrics go like this "some people I know want to be left alone, but the government won't leave them alone, the gang and the government no different, that makes me 1%"

Front line assembly - A lot of their stuff:

 Big money-

"Corrupted - corrupt politicians
Who'll say anything
On their, on their way to the top
They'll stop - stop at nothing

Chorus:

Under the flag
The statue stands
Saluting in the air
Phones are tapped
The wires are out
Spies are everywhere. "

------------------------------------------------

Digital tension demintia-

"You can't say yes, you can't say no
You're living in a fascist world.
Violence is your point of view,
It always makes the best of you.

Freedom is a luxury
Of self induced hostility,
My back is up against the wall,
And everywhere dead men fall.
Efficiency - redundant fear but don't you see?
The power games that they play,
The methods which they put in your way.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Bloodsport:

The time has come to make a stand
No compromise in sight.
No more words it's time to act
The battle has begun.

For long enough you've cheated yourself
And now it's time to act.
More power to society will only drag you down.
Just stand up for yourself
With both feet on the ground

Believe in what you try to do.
Don't let them bring you down,
More power to society will only drag you down

That book someone mentioned earlier is "Miss Liberty's Film Guild" and has a ton of libertarian films reviewed. last publication was years ago tho so it's not really up to date.

one of the gems from it tho is Shenandoah. A jimmy stewart movie where he plays the patriarch of a southern family trying to mind his own business and stay out of the civil war. stewarts character has some of the best libertarian lines i've heard in any film.

I know this is going to a smaller group inside a small group, but if you listen to hardcore (punk, not metal) , you might like T.S.O.L. (True Sound of Liberty)

Black Flag - "Police Story"

Great example as well.

'This Machine Kills Fascists' is a famous Woody Guthrie quote. Guthrie, to my knowledge, was fairly socialist/ communist - Billy Bragg (lefty esquire) somewhat aspires to be Guthrie.

Movies - The Last of the Mohicans.  A virtually anarchist movie.

Here are some quotes so that you can get an idea:

British Officer: You call yourself a patriot, and loyal subject to the Crown?
Hawkeye: I do not call myself subject to much at all.

Maj. Duncan Heyward: I thought all our colonial scouts were in the militia. The militia is fighting the French in the north.
Hawkeye: I ain't your scout. And we sure ain't no damn militia.
Duncan: There is a war on. How is it you are headed west?
Hawkeye: Well, we kinda face to the north and real sudden-like turn left.

Jack Winthrop: We're not forgetting Webb's promise.
Colonel Munro: British promises are honored. And the militia will not be released, because I need more definite proof than this man's word.
Jack Winthrop: Nathaniel's word's been good on thie frontier a long time before you got here.
Colonel Munro: This meeting is over, the militia stays.
Jack Winthrop: Does the rule of English law no longer govern? Has it been replaced by absolutism?
Hawkeye: If English law cannot be trusted maybe these people would do better making their own peace with the French.
Duncan: That is sedition!
Hawkeye: That is the truth.

Cora Munro: Why were those people living in this defenseless place?
Hawkeye: After seven years indentured service in Virginia, they headed out here 'cause the frontier's the only land available to poor people. Out here, they're beholden to none. Not living by another's leave.

Duncan: And who empowered these colonials to pass judgement on England's policies, and to come and go without so much as a "by your leave"?
Cora Munro: They do not live their lives "by your leave"! They hack it out of the wilderness with their own two hands, bearing their children along the way!

Cora Munro: Justice? If that's justice than the sooner French guns blow the English out of America the better it will be for the people here!
Colonel Munro: You do not know what you're saying, girl!
Cora Munro: Yes I do, I know exactly what what I'm saying, and if it is sedition, than I am guilty of sedition too!
