I usually shy away from calling any contract exploitation, but this does seem like a genuine case of it. The film wasn't all that good. It was far too short to be feature length, and it relied on shock value as entertainment.

I didn't just not like it, I dislike the director for making it.

I think mike isn't trying to discourage you from quitting. Just for you to cut down on it first, before you make the decision to quit.
