Just in case anyone is interested, due to some recent, um, "interest" from the mainstream media about Freedomain Radio, I have had to become proactive in dealing with the abuses coming out of Koen Swinkel's anti-FDR site "Liberating Minds."

I have posted a short history, along with some sample quotes of what goes on over there.

(Please note that the language I have culled from this site is pretty harsh.)

I hope that when the smoke clears, I will feel more comfortable posting here again.  Smile

Best wishes,

Stef

Posting? No, you are not posting. You are advertising your website and not participating in any other conversation, asshole. In my book, that would make you a spammer.

Just so we're clear, that was not intended to make you "comfortable."

Agreed...

That "Deception" poster, while clever, is way off-base.

"Dissent not tolerated"???  It's more like "Abuse not tolerated"... and why should he put up with people coming on his BBS and cussing at him?  It's his BBS, after all... who would tolerate that in, say, one's own house?  Or even in any conversation?

"Individualism Obliterated"???  Please... the entire point of his podcast is to find one's true self.

"Conformity, Submission & Obedience are Virtues"???  This is, ummm, the total opposite of what he's all about.

The essential point about leaving your friends & family only has to do with abusive relationships wherein the party in question continually will not even listen or acknowledge there is a problem.  All he's saying is that we're free to associate with whomever we please... and relationships that are obvious net negatives, after repeated failed attempts at getting into positive territory, are only going to hurt and further enslave you.  Spend your time with people who love you and will listen to you.  What's the problem with this message?

Is it a cult?  I view "cult" as a neutral word that just means the participants of "culture", which in turn just means a collection of traditions, mannerisms, vocabulary & interests.

There is American culture... so there is an American cult.
There is Star Trek culture... so there is a Star Trek cult.
There is a Linux culture... so there is a Linux cult.
There is a State Bar Association culture... so there is a State Bar Association cult.
There is Grateful Dead culture... so there is a Grateful Dead cult.
There is Christian culture... so there is a Christian cult.
There is Free State Project culture... so there is a Free State Project cult.
There is Freedomain Radio culture... so there is a Freedomain Radio cult.

Seeing as though, of the millions of people who have listened to FDR, he claims about 20 have "De-FOO'd", it's hard to say that's the main purpose of his show.

If these people who disagree with Stef (or "cyber stalkers" if you like name-calling) are so obviously wrong, why do they need to be banned? Couldn't Stef just keep them around, and smack their arguments to the ground whenever they come up, since it's so easy to do so?

Could you not redirect your vitriol for them that really deserve it, such as the state?.. Cos its giving liberty a bad smell guys

This is #8 on the Liberating Minds list of Stef's 10 underhanded debating techniques.

8. The Prioritization Fallacy
This technique has basically made Stef invulnerable to any form of criticism for the next gazillion years. Briefly put the technique is this: As long as there is bigger misery in the world than possibly morally wrong behaviour by Stef you cannot legitimately criticise Stef for it indicates irrational prioritization. He doesn’t say it this explicitly but it is the logical implication of what he says.
