Allowable items for drop off?

"You may drop off,

    * clothing for court
    * cash for commissary, or you can drop off or send in a certified bank-check or a money order.  You can make them out to either the offender or Cheshire County DOC
    *  footwear once pre-approved by the Director of Safety and Security (it is the the responsibility of the offender to ensure this is done)  Footwear will not be accepted without prior approval"

"Packages?

[Packages must be pre-approved prior to them being mailed in.  It is the responsibility of the offender to make sure this is done.  Books must come from a book store or publisher and maybe mailed in, once approved.  Footwear maybe mailed in, again it must be pre-approved by Director of Safety and Security "

"Mail?
Privileged Mail

Privileged mail is mail to or from attorneys, authorized representatives acting in their official capacities, legal aid services, or other agencies providing legal services. Incoming mail will be opened for inspection in the presence of the offender – it will not be read. Outgoing mail will not be opened unless there is a reasonable belief that there is contraband or information relative to the breach of security inside the envelope.

Non-privileged Mail

This mail consists of all mail that is not defined above. Outgoing mail of this type will not be opened unless there is reasonable belief that there is contraband or information within that could jeopardize the safety and security of the institution. Incoming mail will be opened with the offender present and checked for contraband and money. You will receive a receipt for any money received. The mail will not be read. If there is reasonable belief that incoming personal mail contains substance or information that would violate institutional security, or if the mail is from another Correctional institution it may be opened and read without the offender being present. If you wish to write to another inmate who is housed in this facility, it will be necessary for you to use the Federal mail system to do so. Nuisance bulk mail is not authorized, and will be disposed of upon arrival.

a. All outgoing mail must have a return address to include your full name and the Facility address, or it will be returned to you.
b. Outgoing mail addressed to government officials and other Official entities may be inspected in the presence of the inmate with due cause.
c. All incoming mail will be inspected at random for contraband. Introduction of contraband by mail, to include tobacco, postage stamps, matches, drugs, weapons, or any other non-approved item is a violation of the law and could result in felony charges being filed against you.
d. You may receive photographs as long as they are no larger than 3 by 5 inches and do not depict nudity or semi-nudity of anyone or gang related materials. You may not, however, have more than 10 photographs in your possession at any time. Computer images are acceptable, each sheet is one picture, and this is not to be posted.

e. Legal mail from any court and/or attorneys will be opened in front of the inmate
f. We will accept non-local newspapers by mail only.
g. We will accept religious publications from churches, ministries, and publishers only. "

"Mail can be sent to:

    Ian Freeman (Bernard)
    Cheshire County DOC
    160 River Road
    Westmoreland, New Hampshire 03467"

Just had an idea, don't know if this has been posted anywhere else but what if Mark or Julia set up a place we could send money that they would use to pay bills or buy stuff for Ian? That would get around all this read tape.

This brings up a reasonable point.  If you suspect you're going to get abducted by bureaucrats, you should keep a copy of your reading list where someone can will find it, making it easier to get your reading in jail (you may have a difficult time remembering what's on your list after the goons take you away.)
