Pay Ian to Read in Jail.

Advantages to helping in this way.

One: Ian can use the money to keep the show going or whatever he chooses. I know if I was put in jail for 93 days my finances would be in shambles. So if he wants to pay his electrical bill or buy gold, or food, or a ticket to Vancouver, that needs to be his choice.

Two: Ian will come out of jail with more knowledge (power!) and we’ll hear that on the airwaves… assuming that the participants pay Ian to read important books.

One of my only criticisms (perceived) of Ian is that he has not read enough books. His promotion of ‘Market for Liberty’ and ‘Healing Our World’ (two really great books) has me wanting to name the dude ‘Two Book Bernard’.

I’ll start the bidding at $200 for Atlas Shrugged.

Others can add money to my bid if they want him to read the same book. Or start a new bid, say ‘The Road to serfdom’ for $201, or ‘The Creature of Jekyll Island’ for $201.

Note: The idea is that the book with the most money attached to it will be read first, and so on.

Note: Ian has not agreed to this, so I’ll be giving him the money without the expectation that he will read the book I suggest. This is not a contractual obligation on his part.

Question: What is the best way to get Ian the Cash. I will likely just add a one time bump in my amp every time I bid for a book. Mark, please let us know if that’s the best way.

Question: I don’t know if we can get the books to him in jail. Can we? Someone please let me know.
I’ll be sending in my cash (via money order separately) once I find out the best route.

Note: please send the money as soon as you bid, so that your wife does not talk you out of it, “Oh, is this for that stupid anarchist that’s in jail over a couch? We need money for Christmas!”

My novel (www.dropdeaddolls.com)  is due to be released very soon - I think I'll send him a copy of that to read.

Promoting your own book, unless you are sending it in with an actual bid, does not get money in Ian's pocket, which is the point of this thread.

Fair enough.

So, has Ian agreed to this?

No, I'll leave that for Mark or Julia or others to contact him.

Anyone who can actually finish writing a book I have a certain of amount of respect for.

You seem like a reasonable man.

I'd prefer he read The Fountainhead. Among libertarians there's too much focus on companies having an obligation to satisfy consumers, and not enough focus on respecting the artistic integrity of those who create. Within fans of music there's a well established notion that artists should have artistic integrity and not "sell out" - this notion applies to anyone who invents things, not just musicians. The Fountainhead does a good job at educating people about integrity, and therefor I reckon more people should read it.

Might be a hard sell.

For someone who's obviously intelligent, lie Ian is, he's got quite an inti intellectual thing going on.

Hopefully he won't be there long enough to get so bored as to desire a book, even though it would be great if he'd read some Rand.

20 minutes would be long enough to make me desire a book.

Yeah, I'm totally with ya. But Ian really shit talks the book learnin'.

Like I said, I'd hope he's not there long enough to want to do something he otherwise detests, just to fight off boredom.

EVERYONE reads in jail.

I didn't, and I read three or four books a week.

Of course, I was only in jail for three days, so I'm not an authority.

Rand? Ick. If he has to read something intellectual, he should at least read someone who actually understands the free market, like Mises. I just wish I had the cash to back that up, though. Razz

OK – I just paid Ian 200 worthless federal reserve notes to read Atlas Shrugged.

I just did a one time AMP for that amount.

Mises is great too, but let’s see some bids!

sorry I don't have $200 but I do have a copy of the big book if he wants to read it.

If by 'big book' you mean Atlas Shrugged - and if you can get it to him, that would save me a lot of hassle and some money too.

Just curious though, what book would you want Ian to read?
