http://all-left.net/

The Alliance of the Libertarian Left is a multi-tendency coalition of mutualists, agorists,
voluntaryists, geolibertarians, left-Rothbardians, green libertarians, dialectical anarchists,
radical minarchists, and others on the libertarian left, united by an opposition to statism,
militarism, and the prevailing corporatist capitalism falsely called a free market, as well as
by an emphasis on education, direct action, and building alternative institutions, rather
than on electoral politics, as our chief strategy for achieving liberation.

Are you BenTucker, or just one of his buddies?

You know how to use the shift key, so I'm thinking you're not BenTucker.

Libertarianism should not be effected by the left - right spectrum, please find enclosed the term Classical Liberal, please do not drag libertarianism in to your granny slag fest with the statist spectrum.

Thank You.

Goddammit Cyro, he doesn't mean it that way.
Unity with others opposed to the state by overcoming misconceptions is the best chance we've got. Welcome, Quexalcote, perhaps you should elaborate on your views before you confuse more people.

By left they mean the traditional definition originating in the French Revolution when all the people that were opposed to the state sat on the left side of the room, I believe.

No, I am not Ben Tucker (although I greatly admire Benjamin Tucker).  If you follow the link you'll see what it's about. A coalition of anarchists and libertarians of various types.  The ALL site is run by Roderick T. Long, I just thought some folks here might be interested.

Cyro- I am quite familiar with the term Classical Liberal, they would be welcome too.

If you're thrown off by the use of the word 'left' in this context, go to the page and read Karl Hess's piece, I believe it's the first one there.

BenTucker is a georgist who was trolling here for more than a year until a few months ago, I think.

I'm not objecting to his presence, I'm simply annoyed by the term 'left libertarian.'

Wow, that made me even more disturbed by the whole thing... sounds almost anarcho-communist.

Even so, it looks like this guy is way better than BenTucker: http://www.strike-the-root.com/cgi-local/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=news;action=usersrecentposts;username=Quexalcote

I would be concerned about these 'alternative institutions'.

Quex, welcome. I would suggest you do a search on this board for "Ben Tucker" before posting any diatribes or attempting to recruit folks.

Goddammit, BT wanted to tax people. He was a statist.
I don't think Quexalcote wants to tax people.

I'm not sure where you got that impression.  Did you read the whole thing, or just skim it?  Hess was definitely very 'experimental' in his politics at certain points, but I hardly see anarcho-communism in this.

Why?

Because everything he listed already is counted under 'libertarianism' the 'left' addendum is either collectivist drivel or completely unnecessary.

Sure, but it doesn't mean I have to agree with the association.

Thank you the valuable insight there.

If what I've done so far has been to post diatribes, I better get going now.  I merely linked to a website that I thought might be of interest to some people here.  As for these "alternative institutions", are you aware of any libertarian history before, say, 1980?
