No debates, just opinions here.
Rifle - .308
Rifle runner up - .22lr
Rifle special mention - .17HMR
Handgun - S&W 460 Magnum
Handgun runner up - 9mm JHP (I'm partial to 147 grain Hydroshocks)
Handgun special mention - .45 Super
Most likely to be hated by me - 40 S&W

Rifle
.22 LR - cheap, and despite what alot of cock waving debates say, it can stop just about anything from attacking you if you have enough of em....... in my opinion.
Handgun
45 ACP 200 gr - I dont shoot anything else. I just figured, stick with one thing and get good with it.

7.62x54R - DIRT CHEAP, shitload of stopping power.
.308 - about the same but more expensive and more American.
40 S&W - relatively inexpensive, 50% more stopping power than 9mm, but handles about the same.

.45 ACP, just feels right; couldn't get the load that felt right in .40 S&W or 9mm (played with .357 sig, which was insane.) Did shoot someone else's nice .357 magnum, but a revolver seems to sting unless it's pretty large, and my use for it would probably be in an ankle holster. Got a little .38 special for that, and it too stings.
Got no opinion on long gun calibers.

I still prefere the analog type. Just quicker on the job, and you don't feel the urge to reset them every few minutes. I do like a digital when I am checking lathe work though.

I'm with you. My analog caliper works very nicely.

The last thing that gave me a boner was .308 through a full auto FAL at a gun range.

This is more determined by my favorite guns.
My favorite pistol is the one I carry which is the HS2000. This comes in 9mm.
For rifles I have a SIG556 which is a .223 caliber. I also really like shooting the 8mm Mauser.
