So there is yet another story about how more alcohol is sold in NH per person than anywhere else. Of course, no one would even be shocked by such information. Why is the so, though? Lots go deep (perhaps too deep for some) into the reasons.
New Hampshire ranks #1 for drinking

"New Englanders and people in the far West and the Upper Plains states drink the most, according to the Washington based trade group, the Beer Institute. The driest states are spread across the Deep South, Texas and the mid-Atlantic (except Washington D.C.).
New Hampshire takes the top spot as the state that drinks the most, more than double the national average. People in N.H. consumed an average 6.7 gallons of wine apiece, and 3.8 gallons of liquor in 2010."

That number may be artificially high as many people from other states buy booze there because there is no sales tax. That could skew gallons/population in a state as small as NH.

No doubt. The college teacher and law dog made that argument.
However, there is also this to consider, "Part of this is due to a high consumption rate—New Hampshire had the highest rate of alcohol use in the past month, 63.1 percent, in a survey by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a federal agency."
You folks are likely right. But the drinking rate is still the highest according to that detail.

I find it very hard to believe they drink more in NH than in WI. Is it by dollar amount or something? Perhaps people in NH just drink more fancy stuff whereas here we drink a LOT of cheap beer.

I bet it has something to do with the fact that all NH's liquor sales are done through state run operations. They probably report every single sale to this trade group, whereas the other states without government run alcohol sales dont report 100% of their sales to these trade groups, perhaps for tax purposes, or other reasons.

Did you look at the post? People are less religious in NH. People have more money in NH. People have a higher level of education in NH. People are more non-hispanic white in NH. People are more gay or bisexual in NH. All of these groups drink more. Just click on the post. I actually am glad that you posted "Perhaps people in NH just drink more fancy stuff whereas here we drink a LOT of cheap beer." I'm looking for more theories on this. However, the drinking rate is actually higher in NH, overall, than any other state, according to the data. Young people also tend to smoke more marijuana in NH than just about anywhere else. I'm looking for why.

Probably sodden all days of the week. Greasy. Pouring it in your tea, and porridge.
"Oh, look at me, I'm sodden all days of the week, pouring it in my tea and porridge! Living in New Hampshire!"
You say, greasily.

Thats an average of roughly 1.5 glasses of wine, and one cocktail per week.
Most of the people I know drink more than that each week, and where they live has nothing to do with it.

People in New England are pretty heavy drinkers.
I think people in Maine drink more than people in NH. I was surprised by the number of stores in ME that sell hard stuff. Rite-Aid has an aisle of the shit.
NH has state liquor stores on the highway.

How considerate of them to put a rest area next to the liquor store!
