So there is yet another story about how more alcohol is sold in NH per person than anywhere else. Of course, no one would even be shocked by such information. Why is the so, though? Lots go deep (perhaps too deep for some) into the reasons.
New Hampshire ranks #1 for drinking

"New Englanders and people in the far West and the Upper Plains states drink the most, according to the Washington based trade group, the Beer Institute. The driest states are spread across the Deep South, Texas and the mid-Atlantic (except Washington D.C.).
New Hampshire takes the top spot as the state that drinks the most, more than double the national average. People in N.H. consumed an average 6.7 gallons of wine apiece, and 3.8 gallons of liquor in 2010."

That number may be artificially high as many people from other states buy booze there because there is no sales tax. That could skew gallons/population in a state as small as NH.

No doubt. The college teacher and law dog made that argument.
However, there is also this to consider, "Part of this is due to a high consumption rate—New Hampshire had the highest rate of alcohol use in the past month, 63.1 percent, in a survey by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a federal agency."
You folks are likely right. But the drinking rate is still the highest according to that detail.

I find it very hard to believe they drink more in NH than in WI. Is it by dollar amount or something? Perhaps people in NH just drink more fancy stuff whereas here we drink a LOT of cheap beer.
-
I bet it has something to do with the fact that all NH's liquor sales are done through state run operations. They probably report every single sale to this trade group, whereas the other states without government run alcohol sales dont report 100% of their sales to these trade groups, perhaps for tax purposes, or other reasons.

I think it's because I'm a Party of One

Did you look at the post? People are less religious in NH. People have more money in NH. People have a higher level of education in NH. People are more non-hispanic white in NH. People are more gay or bisexual in NH. All of these groups drink more. Just click on the post. I actually am glad that you posted "Perhaps people in NH just drink more fancy stuff whereas here we drink a LOT of cheap beer." I'm looking for more theories on this. However, the drinking rate is actually higher in NH, overall, than any other state, according to the data. Young people also tend to smoke more marijuana in NH than just about anywhere else. I'm looking for why.

Probably sodden all days of the week. Greasy. Pouring it in your tea, and porridge.
"Oh, look at me, I'm sodden all days of the week, pouring it in my tea and porridge! Living in New Hampshire!"
You say, greasily.

Thats an average of roughly 1.5 glasses of wine, and one cocktail per week.
Most of the people I know drink more than that each week, and where they live has nothing to do with it.

1-2-3 is a jealous fag
we drink, because we can........because we have to put up with insufferable cunts like you ( homos & massholes too)

So what? It's also one of the healthiest states.

People in New England are pretty heavy drinkers.
I think people in Maine drink more than people in NH. I was surprised by the number of stores in ME that sell hard stuff. Rite-Aid has an aisle of the shit.

NH has state liquor stores on the highway.

How considerate of them to put a rest area next to the liquor store!
:D

Here in CA, pretty much every gas station sells liquor and beer and wine, and I am not sure if I've ever seen a grocery store here that doesn't sell liquor and beer and wine. There's liquor at CVS, Wal-Mart, Safeway, Kroger, and most awesomely Costco.

I dont see a drive-thru though.
I have two drive-thru beer stores within five miles of me.
Garage doors at both ends, like a carwash tunnel. Don't even have to haul your fat ass out of the drivers seat, just pop the trunk.
No liquor, though.
-
They have those "drive thru" Beer Barns in Ft Worth and Dallas too. Out here in the sticks where I live its a dry county and I have to drive 32 miles to get my beer/wine/liquor.
Kinda makes you stock up once you're there...
-
I wanna see drive-thru liquor stores get on board with the root beer stand idea.
Young ladies with pin striped skirts and roller skates delivering shots of Jose Cuervo on those trays that hang on your window. Have your shots, get back on the road and go about your day.
Why hasn't this caught on yet?

In 1994, Money magazine reported that telemarketers raised over $38 million for MADD, keeping nearly half of it in fees. This relationship no longer exists.
2001, Worth magazine listed MADD as one of its "10 worst charities".
In 2005, USA Today reported that the American Institute of Philanthropy was reducing MADD from a "C" to a "D" in its ratings. The Institute noted that MADD categorizes much of its fundraising expenses as "educational expenses", and that up to 58% of its revenue was expended on what the Institute considered fund-raising and management.[18]
Charity Navigator rated MADD at 36.72 on its charity rating scale for the 2006/2007 fiscal year, based on it efficiency and capacity.[19] MADD reported that it spent 16% of its budget on fundraising that year.[19] Charity Navigator reported MADD's total revenue for the year as $49 million (US). [19]
In 2009 MADD took in $41,006,038 and paid salaries of $20,537,936, over half of their income. [20]
Give it a few years, you'll have alcohol detectors in ALL cars reporting to the "black box".
Bye-bye civil liberties. Even their founding member resigned.

MADD is a fucking farce.
They claim they are out there "educating" people on the dangers of drunk driving. EVERYONE, even people who do it, know that its not the best idea in the world to get behind the wheel of a car when shit-faced. So who do these people claim they are educating?
Maybe its time someone started a Mothers Against Throwing Hair Dryers In Bathtubs charity, ya know, to educate people on the dangers of showering while drying your hair. After all, its not a good idea.

If you read the MADD wiki, and sort of read between the lines, it becomes apparent that the founder disliked the direction it was taking. Now it seems to exist as a self-aggrandizing entity that are temperance assholes hell-bent on abolition and won't rest until prohibition is reestablished.
Not to mention, a lot of them are paid very well to be professional assholes. It wouldn't surprise me at all if their higher-ups are on the take from Big Liquor to reach a tolerant medium.

MADD can kiss my (whatever repulses them the most!)
The cop instructor that presided over my DWI MANDATORY classes said they are likely to have a representative in every DWI case that goes before the judge - even in hick counties.
If the judge is lenient, they will document it and it may come back and bite him on his ass. Its how they enforce the mandatory bullshit.

Drinkers and smokers are more fun.
does that mean N.H. is the most fun place to be?
