My mom was watching the news while I was over at my parents house, and she remarked "this country is becoming more of a police state every day." She grew up in Iran, and remembers the revolution.

Dude, I thought you were a spambot for like a week. You posted like a spambot. You failed the Turing test.

Wow.
Except I disagree with her. The US crossed the line into police state status when the patriot act was passed.

Thinking about sad quote, this is the quote that comes into my mind.
“Ester asked why people are sad.
"That’s simple," says the old man. "They are the prisoners of their personal history. Everyone believes that the main aim in life is to follow a plan. They never ask if that plan is theirs or if it was created by another person. They accumulate experiences, memories, things, other people's ideas, and it is more than they can possibly cope with. And that is why they forget their dreams.”
― Paulo Coelho, The Zahir
