Mel Gibson is a racist religious lunatic. I can't watch his movies anymore because I can only see him as Mel Gibson and not one of the cool characters he plays. Too bad. I used to like his movies.

Same here, it just ruined him for me.

Related note (religion crazyness): I decided today that whenever I see a picture of "White Jesus" I'm going to say something like "Oh I didnt know you were Mormon?". So many people have that white picture of Jesus hanging up at home when in reality he was likely very short (closer to 5'), had a dark middle-east complexion, and like many jews probably had curly locks of hair and a giant nose. Yet a Google search for "Jesus" brings up nothing similar.

So true. If Jesus existed, he looked like all these brown people that the US is bombing and droning to death.

Since I don't want to get my posts deleted for being off topic, I just watched the Fellowship of the Rings again. That's such an amazing movie, even though I had to invest 3 1/2 hours of my time. I'll be squeezing in the other two before the 14th when the Hobbit is released.

I'm sorry you have that problem. Then again, Babs Streisand makes me vomit.

I don't know about five feet tall, but I figure he looked looked something like Eric Bogosian:

Rewatched Memento the other day. Its better on the second viewing.

Also watched Ran by Akira Kurosawa. It was interesting seeing him direct in color. The story was incredible. The visuals were just top notch. Its definitely in my top 10 all time films. Total recommendation.

Finally got around to watching Prometheus. I knew it received bad reviews, but had to see for myself.

The main problem with the flick is that every character was pretty much unlikable or at the very least, uninteresting, so there was no element of suspense or horror when you knew someone was about to get offed. Didn't feel any connection to any of the characters, so it didn't really bother me when one of them bit the dust. Like "Ah, a ship-load of douche bags are getting slaughtered...... *yawn*" Big no-no in a horror/suspense movie, even one that is just setting up the sequels.

Just saw Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

It was better than I thought it would be.

Big no-no in a horror/suspense movie, even one that is just setting up the sequels.

Saw in the movie theatre and loved it. I guess I didn't go in with the idea that it was a prequel to Alien. I viewed it more as a sci-fi flick and less of a horror one.

Saw Manos: The Hands of Fate

I thought it would be so bad it was good. Turns out it was so bad it was bad. It has no real redeeming value as a film, and doesn't even into unintentional humor.

Freaks by Tod Browning

I usually shy away from calling any contract exploitation, but this does seem like a genuine case of it. The film wasn't all that good. It was far too short to be feature length, and it relied on shock value as entertainment.

I didn't just not like it, I dislike the director for making it.

Total Recall (2012)

Higher tech, way [with] story changes that I suppose could have been from the original book (PK Dick, "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale") which I didn't read. Too many plot complications. Fell asleep during the extended firefight in the last third.

Overall, the Governator version was better, though low budget and cheesy effects.

Bonus points for bringing back the three-breasted hooker, who was actually hot this time.

Points deducted for a subway ride without masks or suits through chemical weapon wasteland.

Saw The Gold Rush by Charlie Chaplin. It was great. I loved it. I'm not usually a fan of physical humor, but Charlie Chaplin is probably the greatest physical humorist in cinematic history.

The one gripe I have is I watched the re-released film. It was voiced-over, and that just detracted from the story to me. I watched a little of the original with title cards afterwards, and it was better. If you're going to watch it, I suggest you see the older non-narrated version.
