Just started watching Game of Thrones this week. Its good. I'd say overhyped, because while it is good it isnt spectacular like Breaking Bad. It bothers me how many damn characters there are though, and how they blatantly foreshadow stuff every two minutes.

I saw The Avengers over the weekend. It definitely has mass appeal though I'm not quite sure why it's been so hyped. It was solid, but not amazing. It did have a fairly libertarian theme to it, which I liked, but other than that and the interactions between Iron Man and The Hulk (which were excellent IMO), the plot and basically everything outside the action was an afterthought.

I really liked The Hunger Games.
It was worth watching a second time (in the cheapo, second-run theatre, with 100ºF weather outside and no air conditioning in the house.) Jennifer Lawrence was outstanding. I fell in love with her
character
. People raved so much about her and about Winter's Bone, I watched it, too. Didn't get nearly the same love for Winter's Bone. Good film, but not nearly The Hunger Games, for what I want in a film, anyway. She'll probably be one of the all-time great actresses, though, if she avoids all the stupid shit young actresses seem to do/get involved in--particularly those who were deprived of a childhood. You can tell from her interviews that she's well-grounded and not full of herself, and she likes "film" more than acting itself.
Anyway, like the flick, and it's subtle, and not so subtle, liberty themes. I haven't read the book(s), but I thought they did a good job of making their heroine as truly heroic, in the classic sense, as possible.

I doubt it will be picked up on much in the movies, but the books have VERY anti-government themes from Catniss's perspective. I dont want to spoil anything, but the second book is much better than the first & third and it has a lot to do with the aspect of "rebellion". There is also in the books a "hail to the new boss, same as the old boss" theme.

Looking forward to the sequel(s). Hope they don't suck like they usually do.

Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows.
Good movie, but I cringed every time someone talked about the "anarchists" that were setting off bombs in buildings.

Yea, porn counts. But, who watches entire movies? Clips are enough, right?
Now, we want to see those Christmas lingerie pics, okay?
Really!

Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World.
I expected a Steve Carell movie. Instead I got a film that was much smarter, more macabre, and better quality than I expected.

That was what I thought as well.
