The Hunger Games yesterday, John Carter today.

Both were very good, and I thought did a pretty darn good job portraying the books they were based on.
Visually, John Carter was head & shoulders above Hunger Games. I get why HG uses so much of the handheld camera and off kilter shots, but it is a bit disorienting - had to look away from the screen every so often. Thought it was just my 40+ eyesight kicking in, but have heard others talk about it too.

That was the only thing I didn't like about Hunger Games. It was the first thing I noticed about the movie, the shaky cam. Either they stopped doing it as much or I finally got used to it but it was taking me completely out of the story when I was noticing it. I was thinking about the person holding the camera instead of what it was pointed at.

Ironically, I bet that shaky cam is Steadicam.

I watched Deep Water and am now reading A Voyage for Madmen (a book about the same events as the movie).  It's some interesting history, especially if you have any interest in sailing.  The movie itself consisted entirely of narration to old photos and videos along with some short interview clips some of the people involved (directly or indirectly) with the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race.  It's pretty amazing to think about 9 people crazy enough to set off alone in sailboats to circumnavigate the world without stopping to resupply or make repairs to their boats...and without any modern technology like GPS.

I Saw the Devil Trailer

This is a bad motherfucker....Someone does something bad to someone you love and then you want to get revenge...

Check the scene where the guy's hand is pinned to the table with a screwdriver and he tries to pull it out and....Spoiler...the handle comes off the screwdriver.

If that ain't comic horror, what the fuck is?

Plus, you get introduced to some very hot Korean women in this movie...

I'm speechless after that last comment....

If you're a horror fan, you have GOT to see The Cabin in the Woods. And if you're not a horror fan, you have GOT to see The Cabin in the Woods.

Just re-watched UHF. BETTER then I remember it being, and I loved it in the late 80s.
