IF the gunman allegedly behind the Colarado theatre shooting does not plead guilty to the massacre, he could be given truth serum to determine whether he is insane.

Isn't that the same as forcing someone to self-incrimintate themselves?

P.S. = I tried to submit this article as Show-Prep and it was denied??? Maybe I did something wrong? :?

Oook, 51 views and no replies? I would have thought that for "liberty minded" people that it would have tickled out a reply from someone. :P

So, if someone is accused of some "crime" should he be forced to take truth serum? My one point of view is no not only because it goes against the 5th Amendment but also because it forces someone to possibly incriminate himself against his will. After all truth serum is intended to force someone to answer a question no matter what the consequences might be for him.

Interesting choice of drugs, but it looks like snake oil. Polygraphs only measure nervousness. We can do scans with MRI's to see if the "lying" parts of the brains are being activated, but that technology is in its infancy. Also, unless we have great baselines, I don't see how even the MRI can't be tricked.
