Wizardry Online is the most hardcore fantasy MMO ever created. The difficulty level is insane. The dungeons are brutal. There is no auto-healing. You will earn your levels. Your crimes taint your soul. Your allies could betray you at any moment. And when you die, you die forever.

Are you ready for the challenge?

Eesh! I'm not sure I am.

No resurrections. I'm so used to playing minecraft where no death is forever.

I'm not sure how that's supposed to be broadly appealing. It does say it's for "hardcore" gamers. I'm just picturing putting a lot of time into a character and them BAM. gone. Not appealing.

I'd imagine Mike is probably taken too.

I would be surprised if it has a higher learning curve than EVE Online. Of course, perma-death is not such a bad thing, though it should be within reason. This sounds like a PVP gank-fest waiting to happen later on when people get bored and start whacking newbies unless the power curve is shallow (most MMOs have an extreme power curve).

My Soul Name is Phawkes.  Not sure what times I'll be on, though.

Yeah. Maybe they've thought this through and I'm not giving them enough credit but it sounds like a disaster that most people are going to get tired of very quickly. I might give it a shot but I'm reluctant to give it too much time or effort.

When your character dies, he turns into a ghost, and must find one of the magic statues to revive.  He gets two chances; if he fails the first, he turns into a pile of ash.  If he fails the second, then he's dead forever.  1st level characters always revive.  I should mention, though, that my character was killed, and I turned the game off, then when I turned it on the next day, the character was back in the town, with no opportunity to revive.  It was at that time that I uninstalled the game.  I've since reinstalled it, because..just...ten...more...minutes....

My problem is that the male avatars all look so hideous.  The females are okay, but the males look like boy band rejects.

I'm saying that the word "Anarchir" was taken before I got to it.

If I wasn't about to become homeless again, I'd probably play. However, given my computer access will be restricted, I'm sticking to just Kingdom of Loathing for now.

I'm saying "Mike" is probably taken as well.

So I still haven't tried it yet but I just built a new computer. Who's still playing this and who was discouraged by the (seeming) obnoxiousness?
