For more than a year now, I've focused most of my thought and activism on what many consider to be the "
Achilles' heel" of a libertarian / free market capitalist society - what is to happen to the "bums" who fail to pull their economic weight.
On March 1st, 2013, I've moved into
Tent City - a homeless camp in Lakewood, NJ that at the time was said to be the largest in North Eastern USA. In exchange for my stay (using the camp as an agorist cover for my on-going 10+ year tax resistance), I've worked as the camp's "computer guy" - running the Web-site and Facebook Page, maintaining correspondence with supporters, keeping books, writing letters for people, etc. A distinction should be made between the positions of this camp's leadership and my own, although the positions overlap to some degree - they want to help the homeless by any means necessary, while I reject all government help.
I've been doing a lot of thinking and some online
writing /
ranting about the underlying causes of homelessness, how government hurts the poor, how the free market can do better, and the Right to
homestead so-called "public land".
Socialist tyrants always say, "what about the poor"?... Tent City is living proof that government does a lot more harm than good by artificially raising the cost of living, chasing away jobs, creating resentment, and discouraging voluntary charity!
Tent City is the voluntaryist alternative to the coercive, inefficient, corrupt, immoral, tyranny-empowering racket of the Welfare State! Now the camp's population is down below 20, compared to over 120 a year ago. Many people in need were prevented from coming here - many ended up living under bridges, in alleyways, etc. Most of the original population has been bribed or coerced into leaving. Tent City is now in its final death-throws...
If by any chance anyone here happens to be in the communist cesspool of New Jersey...
Please join us at Tent City (or by the intersection of Cedar Bridge Ave and S Clover St in Lakewood) any time you can this week with signs for a Rally Against Injustice At Tent City!
We are protesting unconstitutional and inhumane anti-homeless laws, government waste and corruption, and the bulldozing of a much-needed charitable institution!Bring a token donation (ideally bottled water) in case the police question you, as it has been legally established that supporters are NOT trespassing when they bring donations to Tent City.
Please make and bring your own protest signs. Try to have a camera to take photos and videos of the events. If you are really brave, bring a tent.
