Ian made the comment to the effect of, "When they turn on their own you know..." in reference to the National Guardsman who was arrested on terrorism charges.
In my experience, over seven years, knowing both and working with both, the mentality of the two are very different. I would never consider the police to be "my own" and doubt that reverse would be true. I know that there are people out there who hold the two groups in some kind of high or hallowed esteem as close to one in the same. However, the truth is that there is an antagonistic relationship between the two. To the point where I am confident that if the opportunity were to arise the military man would defend your liberties against the police officer.
Not to say that the military is perfect, but there is a reason why cops become cops and military members become military.
