I don't think people are lying. According to the occupation survey, we have a lot of people that work in IT. That's going to be a 75-100k job right there - and If they have a spouse... That pushes the household income up readily. What if you are living in a household of 3 family members... or 4?

Then, of course, comes the IRS...

Ugh, i was watching "Cash Cab" last night while having a snack.. and was quite saddened by a something they pointed out with this question.

Is that what I'll be paid if I sign up to the FSP and move to NH?  Count me in!

Do you take into account the local cost of living? Wouldn't it be more accurate to have a poll for percentile placement of someone's local median income?  Cause what I make here in Seattle is average, but if I moved to California I'd be broke & if I moved to Alabama, I'd be fucking rich!

Because it's a generalized demographic poll, they consider it to be an averaged sort of thing. It gives advertisers an idea of the income spread of listeners of the show.

Advertisers who are looking to buy local spots with stations that run our show will interpret the poll one way...
Advertisers who are looking to buy national advertising will interpret the poll another way...

Since we are primarily a national show, and sell to national advertisers, a localized poll isn't necessary, and the income results here are already translated, no matter where you are from, to a national income scale.
